Winter in the Mountains
North Conway: Winter is still going strong in the White Mountains…..This is by far the best winter in recent memory and possibly another foot is expected this week. We usually get 3 feet of snow in March so don’t hang up your snow gear yet! And you’ll be an April Fool if you think spring skiing has ended! I bet skiing and all snowsports will be going strong well into April.
Jackson, Bartlett, Lincoln, Errol, Camptom, Littleton, Franconia and Colebrook, are but a few of the quaint New Hampshire towns that make up the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire and Mt. Washington's Presidential Range. New Hampshire's White Mountains, pristine lakes and scenic byways are home to nearly a thousand stores, fine art galleries, factory outlets, and unique attractions as well as thousands of miles of hiking, biking, ATV and snowmobile trails. From the finest imports to quality NH-made gifts, crafts and gourmet foods there is something for everyone to do and see when you visit our friendly corner of the world. Fresh made maple syrup or hand picked strawberries and blueberries. First tracks on fluffy fallen snow, 4th of July fireworks timed to live symphony music.....or just watching cool, crystal clear water as it ripples in a mountain stream. Relax, renew, ....you are ALIVE in New Hampshire's White Mountains.
You'll also enjoy great restaurants, pubs, live entertainment and lodging at nearly 1000 hotels, bed and breakfasts, lodges, timeshare units and condominium resorts scattered throughout the Lakes Region to the Great North Woods. From Lake Winnipesaukee to the Connecticut Lakes and on both sides of Mt. Washington and the Presidential Range......there are accommodations for everyone from camping to penthouse suites.
There's also alpine skiing at Attitash, Cranmore, Black, Wildcat, Bretton Woods, Waterville Valley, Cannon, Loon and Sunday River.... cross country skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking on our White Mountain trails. For the more adventurous there's Rock and Ice Climbing with some of the world's best climbing instructors....or rafting, canoeing and kayaking the Saco, Androscoggin or Pemigewasett (sp?) Rivers. And don't forget the great factory outlet shopping in the North Conway area at stores like EMS, LL Bean, Tommy Hilfinger, Nike, Reebok and J Crew to name just a few or at the Settlers' Green outlets. Or visit attractions like the Conway Scenic Railroad, Mt.Washington Observatory, Whalestail, Clark's Trading Post, Santa's Village and Storyland. And…..I’d be remiss if I didn't brag about Golf in the White Mountains! We have some of the best golf courses in the country up here in the Whites.
Spring will be here soon with late season skiing in Tuckerman Ravine lasting well into June! Summer will follow with the Saco, Swift, and Pemi Rivers foaming from all of the White Mountains thawing out from epic levels of winter snow. Foliage season will kick in, in the northern parts of the White Mountains and the Great North Woods around the first few weeks of September in the Colebrook, Dixville and Errol areas....and then spreads south to North Conway and all of the White Mountains by mid to late September, finishing up in the Merideth and Laconia areas by mid October.
All of the White Mountains of New Hamsphire are within easy driving distance from Portland, Maine, Manchester, NH and Boston, Massachusetts.
